Santa Rosa de Villa - Part One

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound.
Isaiah 61:1
Since we have so much to post about Eddy's time in Santa Rosa de Villa we are going to break in into three sections. This will be the first portion and will focus on Santa Rosa and a typical Sunday afternoon service.

The van parked outside of the church here in Lima. It can hold eight people for the hour and a half drive to Santa Rosa de Villa. It is full every Sunday... there actually is a sign-up list to reserve a seat.

Traffic on the Pan-Americana heading towards Santa Rosa. Believe it or not, this is light. The traffic is less than half of its normal flow on Sundays.

A Chinese restaurant along the way (It is called Chifa here). The Pan-Americana is lined with these types of establishments.

People waiting for the bus in Santa Rosa. I know it is not a great picture but the bus pictured is what is called a micro, the type I take to school.

I don't really know what these are for... comments anyone?

A home in Santa Rosa.
The van arriving at the church in Santa Rosa de Villa. Every Sunday afternoon a team leaves Lima at around 1:30 PM for the afternoon service in Santa Rosa. This is the town where Eddy taught this past Sunday. He said they had a great study and he closed the time with a question and answer session. The people had so many questions about the bible and Christianity in general. That I am aware of, this is their only weekly service and they do not have a pastor of their own so they were very eager to find answers to their questions.

The inside of the church, picture taken from the roof.
The roof of the church where they are planning to build an apartment for a future pastor and housing for missions teams that will come to serve. They are ready to build but just need some manpower... anyone interested??

The Sunday before Pastor Brian left for the States they had a dinner with the congregation there. Here is Oninxha serving up the food. Oninxha is one of our church's full-time missionaries.
The children of Santa Rosa.

Jimmy teaching the older children. As you can see there is a lot of children to be ministered to, more so than the adults.

Well, that about wraps up part one. We wanted to introduce to you the town of Santa Rosa de Villa and in the next update we will show you pictures from the team who prepared the church for the medical clinic this past week. The following update will have pictures from the clinic itself, some very interesting ones I might add. I've also updloaded all of our pictures from our time here in Peru to my Facebook account if you would like to see the complete photo album. Since there are so many from this medical clinic I may upload them to Kodak.com and then send you an invite from there.

Praises:
  • The medical clinic went extremely smooth despite all of the enemies attempts to throw it off course. A team of doctors came from the U.S. and saw over 450 people in just two days. I can't wait to show you the pictures.
  • We are thankful for the Lord's continued protection over us and His constant goodwill toward us.

Prayer Requests:

  • Continue to lift up little Josiah's skin condition... I'm no longer calling it an infection as it just seems to cycle. Eddy did however meet a dermotologist from Lima while serving at the clinic and so at least we have a name of someone we can try to take Josiah to be checked by. Until then, keep praying for the Lord's healing hand upon him.
  • For Hadassah to adjust to the people. Although she seems very comfortable in her new home and is doing well in school she is very shy. She has warmed to Eddy's family but as far as kids her own age, she refuses to play with them. We think it is the language as we notice a difference in her reactions to those who speak English. We know it will just take time but it would be nice for her to make some friends.
  • For the bible studies Eddy will be teaching this week. He will teach the mid-week study in our home church this Thursday evening. He will also teach again in Santa Rosa this coming Sunday. We ask for special prayers for Thursday night as he has invited most of his family and we pray that they will be able to attend.

I just wanted you to know that I read all your updates here.. but until now I didn't leave any comments.

I just wanted to say that to me it seams pretty normal for Hadassahs age to not play together with other kids.. most kids don't until age of three - if they are not very close. Language barriers are usually not that a big problem for kids. They find other ways to communicate - and understand a lot more than we think.

God bless!
